50 Years Ago Today:

Game One
Fox Cities Foxes 11
Burlington Bees...5

(7 innings)

Game Two: PPD

The Foxes got after it early in the first game. They scored two in the first inning and five in the second put it away. Jim Lehew got the win. Ed Montgomery went 2-for-3 with a run and three RBI.

Game two, which was scheduled for nine innings, was postponed. Not sure why game one would be seven innings and game two would be nine. You would think that it would be the other way around. But, hey! It was the 60's, man.

The Foxes are 3-4. They will try to get the doubleheader in tomorrow at Community Field.

25 Years Ago Today:

The Appleton Foxes had a doubleheader at Wausau. They split with the Timbers.

Game One:
......................R H E
APPLETON..200 110 0 - 4 7 2
WAUSAU....500 001 x - 6 7 0

Jerry Bertolani hit a two-run homer in the first inning to put Appleton up early in game one.

Ed Sedar was the starter for the Foxes. He allowed five runs before getting anybody out in the first inning. He would settle down and pitch a six-inning complete game.

Appleton made it close with leadoff homers from Bertolani in the fourth and Wes Kent in the fifth. But, it wasn't enough.

Game Two:
......................R H E
APPLETON..000 070 0 - 7 9 0
WAUSAU....000 000 0 - 0 1 0

Ken Reed and Jeff Anderson combined on a one-hitter. Reed went six innings, walked three, and struck out nine. He gave up the hit on a third inning bunt single by John Anderson.

Jeff Anderson pitched the bottom of the seventh and struck out one.

All of the Appleton scoring occurred in the fifth inning. Luis Peraza homered to start the inning. The next two batters were retired. The Foxes loaded the bases on a hit batsman and two singles. Then, Darral Pruitt knocked in a run with a single. Bertolani forced in a run with a walk. Jim Winters singled in two runs and Peraza completed the rally with a two-run double.

Foxes are 16-10 on the season.
